As an esteemed organization, we are committed to upholding the principles of freedom of expression, promoting responsible journalism, and navigating the intricate legal landscape that surrounds the media industry.
Media Lawyers Association of Kenya is a registered society under the Societies Act, Cap 108 Laws of Kenya, whose membership comprise of lawyers, jurists and scholars with an interest in promoting freedom of expression.
Legal Support and Guidance
Encompasses the association's efforts to provide legal support, guidance, and representation to media professionals, journalists, publishers, and content creators. It involves offering legal consultations, assisting with legal research, providing advice on compliance with media regulations and ethical standards, and representing individuals or organizations in media-related legal matters.

It includes organizing seminars, workshops, webinars, and conferences to enhance the legal knowledge and understanding of media professionals. Legal Advocacy and Protection
Focuses on the association's role in advocating for and protecting the legal rights and interests of media professionals and the public. It includes activities such as monitoring and challenging laws and regulations that may impede freedom of speech or press freedom, filing legal briefs or amicus curiae briefs in important cases, and lobbying for legislative changes that promote a free and independent media.
Where a case of professional misconduct on the part of an advocate has been made out, the Disciplinary Tribunal may order :
- That such advocate be admonished; or
- That such advocate be suspended from practice for a specified period not exceeding five years; or
- that the name of such advocate be struck off the Roll of Advocates; or
- That such advocate does pay a fine not exceeding one million shillings, or such combination of the above orders as the Committee thinks fit.
- That such advocate pays to the aggrieved person compensation or reimbursement not exceeding five million shillings.
